Fran García Vásquez is a ceramicist from Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, part of the Aguilar family of clay artists. Her work explores Muxe identity, a third gender recognized within Zapotec culture for centuries, bringing that tradition to life in pieces like "Sireno Muxe" (Muxe Mermaid) and "Mujer Istmeña." Fran has spoken about the support her family, especially her grandmother Josefina, gave her as she embraced this identity herself, a path she's said isn't always easy in her hometown.
