This one-of-a-kind clay masterpiece, crafted by the son of the legendary José García Antonio, serves as a profound visual narrative of the García family legacy. In this intricate piece, the artist, also named José, honors his parents at the heart of the composition, flanked by his two sisters depicted as sirenas. These mermaids are a poignant tribute to his father’s most iconic motif.
Beyond the family, the sculpture captures the soul of their home, San Antonino Castillo Velasco. The village church and the family’s own doorway rise from the clay, nestled among the vibrant blooms and stalks of corn that define the Oaxacan landscape. It is more than a sculpture; it is a living history of the García lineage, rendered in the earth of their ancestors.
